"Culture in the West has reached a point of stagnation, our moral ideas are fragmenting into tribal divisions and category squabbles that burn with a religious kind of fervour, we are more adrift than we have ever been, living in a time where a generation lacks answers to basic human questions like what are we doing here? What does it mean to be alive?"

Great statement. As quantum physics advances there will be an important intersect between that and understanding the what, who and how of humanity. Lets hope we survive long enough to get there!

I've always loved Studs Terkel the American writer, historian, actor, and broadcaster, best remembered for his oral histories of common Americans, and for hosting a long-running radio show in Chicago. Two links to his archives where he interviews Sagan on various topics.
