Great article. You are absolutely correct. We are completely oil dependent. Things you would not think of such as plastics to deliver medical care and fertilizer for growing all the food 8 billion people need.

I have just completed a five book science fiction series the first to be published July 25 by a small UK publisher. First book available after that date on most sites like Amazon and Barnes and Noble. https://andrewsparke.com/our-authors/felicity-harley/

I avoided the dystopia you describe because two other fellow authors did it so well. American Wars and The Parable of the Sower. Bot must reads. I instead focused on adaptation and used science and some fantasy science to get us there.

I am a supporter of Michael Tellinger's One Small Town. Great ideas for transitional survival and community building...his ideas feature prominently in my books. I love the word Ubuntu which I know you're familiar with Tessa. Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It is often described as reminding us that 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. One of my main survival communities is located in South Africa and it's called the Ubuntu community.

Anyway I put pen to paper because ten or so years ago I became a passionate activist for post climate change survival. Wanting to write a blueprint for my children and grandchildren. I live in a small rural community in a blue very liberal state. I am surrounded by game in my woods and water in my neighbor's lake. We keep bees and grow flowers for them and the butterflies which are many. We grow our own vegetables in the summer and can what we can for the winter. We go away to the island of Bequia in the winter where my mother was born, and sadly has recently suffered massive hurricane damage. Caused by those who burn oil in the North and have raised the Atlantic's temperature by 2 degrees C.

I started a community foundation twelve years ago for the island and we are currently aiding people to recover, but also developing a blue/blueprint for the future along all the lines you recommend.

Excellent, thoughtful and timely article. Thank you! My advice is start preparing now.
