I think generally because we live in a fast, media-driven world, the problem is that Biden is old and does not present the youthful face or stance we would like.
Not only would like but that is required by many Americans nowadays. Neither does Trump for that matter, but his followers clearly do not care as much about the visuals. I believe they rather like his bloated, disastrous appearance...it fits in with their screw the elites ideas. It matches how they look and feel and their disdain for being fit, eating the right food and the looks of George Clooney and his wife Amal.
Biden still has substance and we need to recognize that. The question is can he win an election, carrying a majority ,when he looks and sounds and feels too old? That's the existential question. Because of all the pressure will he have a sudden collapse? I think his advisors need to be discussing this with him. Are these odds he just can't beat through no fault of his own?
We are in a media driven culture. People loved Obama because he was new and vigorous. He had the right look for the part. Biden does not have the right look for the part, but has all the substance and record of achievements we need. Impossible decision!
I would go for Kamala - she will invigorate the race. She will be able to claim credit for all of Biden's achievements. She has the looks that our demographic requires to play the part. She can deliver it with substance and with credibility. She meets all of Lichtman's requirements. She is the future - an elegant woman of color, a prosecutorial mind, and is Biden's legacy to us.
He needs to step on the stage at the Convention and hand over the crown. Big media event, fireworks, tears, emotion. A movie scene the American public and media will love and one that will blow the hair of Trump's head.
