Hi Lauren:
I’ve been a European style Democratic Socialist for many years. I am a member of the Democratic Party because I want to be able to vote in primaries in the US. I came to this country from England over forty years ago and I’m happy to be here and not there.
I absolutely support the idealogy you espouse around equality, wages, healthcare, women’s rights etc. I grew up in a world where women had few rights and were undervalued to say the least. As a consequence of my political ideology I devoted my life to work in the non profit sector. Work which advanced the rights of women and children. I married a man who devoted his life to policy work at the state and national level around the rights of women and childen and many others.
After retirement I have worked non stop in a small Caribben country to start projects centered around recycling, stopping domestic violence against women, advancing jobs, and many other things we take for granted in the US. I am also in the middle of a five part science fiction series that expresses both my political ideology, and my spiritual philosophy.
I am writing this to you because I sense your anger and your exasperation with the system. As a much older person I’d like to say do not give up ever. We desperately need people just like yourself to keep speaking out about the world’s injustices. Thank you for your call to arms and your articulate pen, and please keep on fighting for social justice no matter whom you decide to vote for. L’Chaim.
