I am a science fiction writer who has interwoven these ideas into my series Until This Last. The first published by Double Dragon in 2017 is called theburningyears.squarespace.com. The woman on the cover of the book is a meld between human and AI. The book is also focused on climate change and how she and her male partner Rajeev are able to exist in an exterior world changed by the climate. I based her design on the most complete science available.
Two characters in the series are modelled on Elon Musk type figures. Very rich men who are seeking immortality through the latest science and technology. I hope I raise some interesting philosophical questions. Of course the main one is what does it mean to be human? This is juxtaposed against socially advanced ET’s who agree to help us with our climate and energy technology, in books 2 and 3 of the series (currently in production), but who wish nothing to do with us because we are so culturally, morally and socially behind them.
It was fun to explore the science behind all of this. I really get into the head of Inanna (also name of an ancient Goddess) and Rajeev, and how their thoughts are different to us regular humans. Inanna is a tough cookie who engineers the birth of her twins by using her enhanced grasp of biology to do so. (This was a bit of a stretch but there are female mammals who can achieve asexual reproduction). Rajeev is gentler but a complete techno-wiz, he is one of my favorite characters.
Of course the post-climate change society and world I create is very much based on technological and scientific advances in the future, but which like you say, are almost with us. The people in it are part of the educational and moneyed elite who save themselves — this of course will happen.
Poor uneducated people don’t stand a chance. Not too much dystopia in the books but enough descriptions of the ruined earth to make readers understand what we are doing to our environment. I also have a living, intergenerational space ship based on proto-cell technology, something which will also advance in the future so we’re able to create renewable clothes and food.
As some of us already know and accept UFO’s are currently coming here — either inter or intra dimensional. The US Navy has confirmed this. Think Unidentified Flying Objects not little green men. The technology these craft use is called zero-point or anti-gravity. We don’t have this yet but in my books the civilizations who developed the UFO’s give it to us — our good friend Tesla was on to this type of energy. The conditions they put on us are we do not leave our own planetary system — we’re in quarantine until we figure out how to create a more humane society. Bringing me right back to men like Elon Musk who is exactly like the character Tom in my book-full of contradictions!
