I am personally so happy about this piece — it’s tremendous as is Elizabeth Warren. She is one of the most brilliant women on the political scene today and she makes me so very proud.
I find that these right to lifers never consider male responsibility. I know they are wed to their religious ideology of why they consider abortion to be wrong. For themselves personally I think they have every right to that choice.
However once they start insisting on punitive legislation for all women outside of themselves who seek abortions in the US, then surely the male who has been involved in the act with the woman must also face equal punishment under the law to her? That would mean substantial fines and jail time.
I am on Warren’s side completely, but try talking to these people who quote the bible back at you. What we must say to them is “okay you want to force women to have children legislatively, then legislatively the men who impregnated them must also be forced to pay all medical expenses and provide support to that child until their secondary education is complete. I am sure that you as a Christian, believe that no child should be abandoned by its father?”
I believe such a conversation is long overdue in the US, and that once men with this ideology and who pass this kind of legislation are forced to bear the burden of their own beliefs, all of this kind of medieval nonsense will disappear and they will quickly come to their senses.
Nothing like a little self-interest to let in the light of day.
However thank you Elizabeth Warren I like your way much better, and let’s stack the court if all else fails!
