It's to save themselves since some alien races share this planet with us. If we destroy it through climate change they know it will regenerate. Plus their bases are under the sea and in mountains. If this sounds like fiction - it isn't.
That's why Congress is now taking the whole issue so seriously ,and has formed a committee to look into UFO/UAPs. Will they solve it.
