I simply do not understand how some of those below could possibly defend someone like Trump who may have blatently broken the law? No matter who the prosecutorial body is everyone is accountable under the same legal system for possible tax evasion and money laundering. This is not a partisan issue it’s a bi-partisan issue, and we should all be cheering for the Southern District because they are impartially enforcing laws that we all have to follow and live under.

It is not I repeat, a constitutional issue, it is to do with whether or not Trump has declared his income correctly, and whether or not he has used investments in real estate to help Russian oligarchs clean up money they’ve obtained illegally in their own country. This is not about ousting Trump it’s about putting him in jail if he is found guilty once he is no longer President.

As for the nonsense below about the State targeting a US citizen, does the author not understand that all US citizens are legally liable to declare our income honestly and pay taxes on it, and that most of us do not launder money for oligarchs through massive real estate deals?

For the record simply put money laundering is the way that very rich people including the elite keep legal and illegal money they’ve made out of the country’s economy. The penalties for anyone caught laundering money in the US, and in particular in NY state are as follows:

A violation of 18 U.S.C. §1956 can result in a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. A violation of 18 U.S.C. §1957 can result in a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. As with most federal financial crimes, the exact sentence will be determined primarily by the amount of money involved in the offense.
