I'm a science fiction writer. Rather Orwellian and Bradwellian in my ideas of where we're going. No uneducated people don't matter in a technologically advanced society. We're rapidly moving into a phase of civilization which has been well described by Yuri Noval Harari in 21 questions for the 21st century.
This is a transitional period. The well-educated with means will live and work in well-fortified homes as well as receive their educations there. They will operate in tight social pods and find ways to survive the massive effects of climate change and pandemics. Millions will die.
A decision has been made by those in control that keeping the economy going during this transitional period of human civilization, is more important than the human lives which will be lost. Remember there are millions of us trying to survive on very small planet which is dying.
Sorry folks I'm even bleaker than Umair. The question is will humanity survive? Have others out there met the great filter like we're currently doing, and made it through? I believe we are rapidly coming to the point of collective human species survival versus individual survival.
If this virus was manufactured then that is and example of what Fermi meant. We are now smart enough to engineer the means of our own demise. Think man-made climate change, bio-engineering and nuclear weapons. Unfortunately we do not have the political sophistication to manage any of them in such a way that the majority of us will survive to evolve. Only a small elite few might possibly do so. Or perhaps all of us are already a redundant model, and headed for the cosmic trash can.
