Most human attitudes and behaviour have both a genetic and an environmental component. This is also true for our fear of others who are different to us — xenophobia — and intolerance of their viewpoints — bigotry. Hardwired into the brain’s amygdala region is a fear reflex that is primed by encounters with the unfamiliar.
(Perhaps Insert chip in amygdala region? Remember I'm a science fiction writer so I don't necessarily support doing this but I kow it's possible).
If you read the literature on abductees - those higher up the food chain, ergo non humans , than us are messing in a major way with our perceptions, genetics and our brains (Barney and Betty Hill). True or not who knows? Interesting idea to explore in science fiction - absoutely!
Racism presses the buttons of certain deep-seated xenophobic attitudes within certain people. In fact, it discourages hard-learned inhibitory responses in the brain’s prefrontal cortex that get built up under more progressive contexts.
I do take racism very seriously - this was an attempt to bring a science fiction perspective to what I believe is disgusting and disgraceful behavior. I am particularly concerned since my granddaughter is Black.
