“Particularly since the rise of Bernie Sanders, the leftist, progressive movement in the United States has been steadily gaining ground. Perhaps even more interesting than the support that Bernie has been able to generate across a broad coalition of various demographics has been the response from the not only the right wing, but the rest of the Democratic Party with more centrist leanings.”

Hi Lauren I know you’re too young to remember but there were a lot of progressives who fought against the Vietnam War, started the seeds of progressive journalism like Mother Jones (I was one), and stood up for the values we believed in. It was hard going but we changed a lot of things. In fact the whole women’s liberation movement began in the seventies and I was part of that. To be frank Bernie probably got the seeds of many of his ideas way back then.

I am very much still a progressive however many in the Democrat Party still remain in the middle, so if” change is gonna come” we’ve got to bring them along too! I’m sending you my favorite song - something I sing a lot to myself these days, hope you’ll join me!
