“The new edition of the Edelman Trust Barometer registers public trust in institutions at rock bottom. That is one reason why the presidential election will be the most divisive in memory — in what is highly likely to be a close race, neither side will wholly trust the outcome, or anyone to adjudicate if the winner is not clear-cut (take a look at this Ipsos poll from October). Democrats will talk about suppressed voting, and Republicans of cheating. If he is the apparent loser, Trump is likely to take to Twitter, and his base to the streets. The election will be ugly and possibly dangerous.”
I’ve been thinking recently of Brexit — and the succession of Scotland and Ireland. Why? Because they don’t want minority government. How long do you think the larger states who are shut out of the electoral college by getting the same two Senators as North Dakota say “NO, you (the minority) don’t determine what our cultural values are nor our laws when the majority of our population do not support you.” How long will the large blue states continue to support the smaller red states with their tax dollars? How long as economic drivers of this country will they agree to cultural norms and laws handed down by a Federal government that is rigid and conservative in nature. Kept that way by judges and senators put there by the minority that don’t represent the majority of us.
I personally think as we break down we’ll start thinking about states rights. How dare DOJ sanction our cities and our citizens who are in the majority and didn’t elect the current government?
I’d personally like to see an EU type of government here based on trade, defence and research and development. I’m sick of the white Southern and mid-western states determining what our (the majority of US citizens) cultural and religious values should be.
I hope that that much more autonomy will occur over the next twenty years for the individual States and that is the change we all start talking about. Either that or do away with the electoral college.
