This kind of human behavior has unfortunately been going on since the Holocene Period which started roughly 12,000 years ago. Hierarchical wealth was one of the cultural traits that was heavily favored beginning then. Large segments of populations were enslaved or sacrificed to it.

So I agree with you wholeheartedly, what we now need is control over our leaders to ensure that they govern for the collective good of all, rather than for the selfish needs of those who have accumulated excessive capital and kept a hold of it for generations.
