,This was a brilliant analysis of LeGuin. One of the best. In this time of contact with "non human intelligences" I believe it will be important like LeGuin to try and use metaphors to talk about meaning and intent.
I have just completed a five book science fiction series much in the vein of Ursula Le Guin. In this series through metaphor and philosophy I try and make sense of quantum physics, gnosticism, hermeticism, time/space, contact with non humans, and spirituality. I also take on climate change.
I am about to go out and look for a publisher for it. The series has taken me ten years to write. The first book was published in 2017 but press was sold and I decided to keep the rights to my book. I recently got an offer on the second book but turned it down.
Once again I cannot thank you enough for this brilliant and insightful analysis. Much needed for the soul right now given the dreadful materialist massacre of human beings which is taking place right before our eyes. By the way Doris Lessing also had many of the same ideas as LeGuin (a much less accomplished writer however of science fiction however).
As you so wisely say, "the threat is that those who win the fight for reality have the strongest will but also the least wisdom and are the demiurges of our time."
I hope we all become dangerous idealists and seek a lasting, just and fair peace for all humans living in our world. I doubt we will however, and believe we are heading towards Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, as we move inexorably towards dystopia.
The events in my books take place after the events in Butler's series have transpired. I just couldn't bring myself to re-write what she has done so well. And they take place before Asimov's Foundation.
Oh if only we had a prime radiant...but perhaps we do if we can unlock the secret to time travel as Bohm said was possible, since it remains hidden in the present?
